What
is Volunteering?
Volunteering
is an activity which takes lots of different forms: formal or
informal, individual
or in groups, inside or outdoors. Volunteering is an activity
which can suit every lifestyle,
ability, interest and skill, while also having lots of fun in
the process!

| Elroy |
Elroy,
is the Honorary treasurer at Holmcroft Youth And
Community Centre. He has been involved in the running
of the centre for the past 13 years.
Elroy comments “that since retiring from an accountancy
position I find that carrying out a voluntary role
keeps me
up to date with current changes. In addition is passionate
about supporting a local charity that offers so much
to
the local area”. |

 |
Last
year I was considering getting involved
with some voluntary work, the idea was that I
could use any skills or knowledge I had
gained over the last 49 years to help others
and hopefully add a value to a charity that
served the local community. |
I
have grown up in the North end of Stafford and attended
the local schools and the Holmcroft Youth Club was
where
I first met my wife Jean in 1976, so when a questionnaire
from the community centre dropped through my door
I
read it with interest. I was impressed with the cross
section
of the community that the centre catered for, from
tot´s
to older residents and the various interest groups
that
use the centre. |

| Rachel |

Rachel
has started volunteering at the centre on a Monday
with the Dots to Tots, progressing to help in the
Preschool
Playgroup. I want to volunteer to gain experience
working
with children. My previous jobs have been office based
and I wanted to change my career path. |
